Many of my friends who own BlogShops used complain to me on how hard it is to get customers to buy stuff from them. They go on and on describing how good and effective their product is or how cheap they are actually selling their stuff, yet they are still only able to make limited number of sales from their BlogShops!
They do not understand how I am able to make an additional estimated $4000 from my Clothing BlogShop monthly, yet they are not even able to make a measly $500 a month! They think that just because we are selling the same stuff, they are able to achieve the same success as I did.
Many of them tried all kinds of stuff to get people to buy from their BlogShops. They try selling their blouses at 40% off the retail prices (such as places like Hula and Co or TopShop) yet people would still rather buy from the retail outlets as compared to buying from them.
Some even tried going around pasting paper advertisement over their HDB flats so that more people will visit their BlogShops! Haha!
So, what makes my BlogShop so much more successful as compared to theirs?
In fact, I would say that my BlogShop looks exactly the same as theirs, just that I was able to create more credibility in my BlogShop.
Think of it this way, even if we are credible and honest BlogShop owners, there are so many scam websites over the internet that causes people to be more wary when they make purchases online. Many of them are afraid that that their money might get cheated away, so they would rather not spend a single dime even when they find something they really like online.
In fact, during a recent survey conducted through my Facebook list, over 55% of my (250) friends claims that they do not make online purchases because they may get involved in online fraud.
Therefore, if you are able to show that you are a credible person and that you are setting up an honest business, more people would be willing to buy from you! Setting up a shop online is not always about having better products or having a cheaper price (although they are important factors) but it is also about how credible your BlogShop looks.
SO tell me Clemence.. How do i improve the credibility of my BlogShop?
- Set up a About Us page so that visitors are able to know what kind of a person you are. When you have a credible profile up, and you are able to show people that you are actually real( I know this sounds lame), more people would trust and buy from you. One method is to actually leave your facebook/friendster link on your BlogShop.
- Link your BlogShop to different Blog directories. This shows that your blog is actually authorized by all the Blog Directories.
- Try to sound more professional in your BlogShop and try not to use lame jargon ( like using 'euu' instead of you or using 'Ah lian' language)
- Leave testimonials of satisfied customers so that people are able to see that you are an honest and reliable BlogShop owner. If non of your customers actually left any comment, try emailing them and asking them for one.( You would be surprise how many people are willing to do it)
- Leave your picture in your BlogShop( People tend to be more trusting when they see the picture of the person)
- Visitors are rightly skeptical of unsubstantiated claims. If you make a claim (”best value,” “most reliable,” etc.), prove it. Proving what you say will build credibility.
Therefore, I would like to request that if you have any methods on improving credibility of your Blogshop, do leave a comment and share it with others!
(If you manage to give a really good suggestion, I would even consider putting your BlogShop link at the right side of my blog.)

Hi guys! Do leave your comments here =) Don't be shy!
Hi there!
You've provided great information on how to improve traffic and sales in a blogshop. Thanks!
However, despite placing my link down in various blog directories and classified ads, the traffic and sales still didnt improve as much. Why is that the case? Or maybe the kind of apparels on sale also matters?
Here's my website: http://fashionstaples.blogspot.com/.
Do email me at fashionstaples@gmail.com.
Thank you so much!
I faced the same challenge as Fashion Staples. Traffic is okay but I am not churning that traffic into sales. I am lost and kinda dejected...
Hi enjoyed your tips they are great.
My problem is completely different and hopefully you can help me.
I am just starting setting up a baby shop http://uvme.mn/blogshop/sashababy/ now the person that has been helping me keeps saying he is putting me under another host and so on . For me this is no good when I am running I want continuity not chops and changes it looks bad.
I asked him who hosted blogshop and how much it would cost me a month. He said look at wordpress well I could find nothing there.
I found your blogshop could you please tell me how to transfer mine to this and how much I pay a month and what is the main url there.
You may contact me please on diana@emilmoz.com
Sorry but I am just finished with being conned.
Thank you and take care of yourself Diana
i think one way of improving the credibility of your blogshop is to show that you really exists. Show up at flea markets, events, etc. And post some pics of your stall & customers on your blogshop. Events like these will not only add to your credibility, but your customer base would likely expand as well!
Just my 2cts worth :)
Cheers!

i would like to ask, what would be the largest capital needed to start up a blogshop?
I really agree with you! Especially the "use proper language" part. When I see blogshop owners type in chat language, I don't feel safe buying from them; they sound juvenile and reliable. And I am right about most of them too. When I emailed them for more info or order/payment confirmation, they took days to reply. Some don't even bother. Credibility has to be proven. Therefore efficiency is a very important factor. We should check our mails at least once a day (I do it at least 2, 3 times a day) and make all replies/verifications propmtly. Parcels should be neatly packed, tightly sealed, and mailed out asap as well. Of course this means you need to have customers before you can prove most of your credibility. But it really does help because with good service, you get return customers. Some of them even recommend you to their friends as well!
I just started my blogshop, but I know it works because I am such an avid online shopper. Of course please do take a look at my shop. Hope you find something you like! :)

hi just like to know..garnering public opinion here...how u guys feel about an all male stuff blogshop...i dun see much of that online so like to ask if there is a market for it? mainly clothes and accessory and stuffs for your boyfriends?
To Tan regarding an all male stuff blogshop:
I do think that a blogshop selling male stuff can be quite well received. Many of my male friends have been telling me to bring in male apparels to sell. The only reason why I have not done that is because I don't have extra capital to bring in my items. After all my blogshop is new and traffic is not extremely high as yet..

hmm thx for your encouragement FashinLusts. But does the norm average guy actually WILL shops for their clothes online? I know its picking up but its still not currently the trend. As a guy myself and the com means only a few things to me and well haha i think u wun wanna know about that! so hmmm..i dunno
Well I do have guy friends asking me to bring in male clothes so that they can buy from me. So I guess there are guys out there who will shop online. That's what I feel, initially I was doubtful, but my guys friends appear to be prospective customers :)
